Introducing Hammer: Thrown. Your Move.
Some bets reward good golf. Hammer rewards nerve. It's the pressure bet — one tap doubles the hole, and now the other side has a decision to make. Starting with this update, Carry tracks the whole exchange: every throw, every double, every fold, settled automatically next to your skins.
How it works
Your group sets a base stake — say $7 a man. At any point during a hole, either side can throw the hammer: the hole is now worth double. The side that got hammered has two options: play on at the doubled stake, or fold and concede the hole at the price it was before the throw. Fold early, pay small. Play on, and the hole is decided by the golf — net better ball, low side takes the money.
Throw it back
Here's where it gets loud. The side that just got hammered can hammer back — doubling the hole again and handing the decision right back. ×2 becomes ×4 becomes ×8, and there's no ceiling except your group's appetite. Only the side that was just hammered can throw the next one, so it's a true back-and-forth: every throw is a dare, and every dare has a price.
Ties: squashed or carried
What happens when a hammered hole ties? Your group picks the rule. Squash (the default): the bet dies with the tie, nobody pays. Carry: the hole's full value — multiplier included — rolls into the next hole's base, so a tied ×4 hole makes the next one start heavy. One toggle in the Hammer settings; pick your poison.
On the scorecard, in the moment
Hammer lives on the scorecard as a floating hammer button. Tap it to see the hole's state — what's on the line, whose move it is — and to throw, throw back, or fold. When the other side hammers you, your phone knows: the hammer swings, the toast lands, and if your phone's in your pocket, a push tells you you've been hammered. Every phone in the group sees the same chain, live.
Threw it by mistake?
Hammers get thrown on tee boxes, by thumbs, mid-argument. When one goes down wrong, press and hold the hammer button to ask for an undo. The other team gets the request on their scorecard — Confirm rolls the hole back to where it stood, Decline and the hammer stands. Nothing about the chain ever changes unless both sides agree, and everyone gets told either way. Money bets run on trust; Carry keeps the receipts.
Set up like any side bet
Hammer is set per tee group in the Side Bets screen, right beside Junk, Nassau, and Baseball. It plays two-man or four-man — heads-up or two-vs-two — and stakes are per man. One requirement: each side needs a Carry user keeping score, because a hammer is a decision, and decisions get recorded by the people making them.
That's Hammer. Set your stake, wait for your moment — and when someone throws it at you, remember: folding is cheaper, but they'll talk about it all winter.
